I want my legacy to tell the story of someone who led with vision, not fear. Someone who believed that Black people deserve joy. I want my legacy to show my deep-rooted love of community and how I wove love into every aspect of my life.
Pride, Juneteenth, and the spirit of summer in Wisconsin
June in Wisconsin is delicious. The days are long, the lakefronts are full, the food is fire, and the energy in the streets feels alive with possibility. But this season isn’t just about sunshine and summer festivals—it’s about deep, layered truths. It’s Pride. It’s Juneteenth. It’s Father’s Day! It’s the reminder that freedom is something we fight for and celebrate.

As we step into spring, I reflect on what it means to lead with Freedom, Safety, Justice, and Joy in a time when these values are under attack. Like flowers pushing through the last frost, Black women leaders—and all those fighting for equity—continue to bloom against the odds. True freedom is taking up space without apology. True safety is building environments where we can thrive, not just survive. Justice demands we plant new systems rooted in care and accountability. And joy reminds us that thriving is not optional—it’s essential.
This season, I’m not just surviving. I’m blooming.
